About the Authors – Carolyn J. Sperl

CAROLYN J. SPERL, J.D., SPHR, GPHR, has a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration (BSBA), a Master of Science degree in Human Resources/Industrial Relations (MSIR) from Loyola University, and a Law Degree from Chicago-Kent College of Law with a certificate in Labor and Employment Law. She was an adjunct professor for several years at North Park University in Chicago where she taught Strategic Human Resources Management, Labor Relations and Collective Bargaining, and Compensation and Benefits courses at the graduate level.  She is life certified by the Human Resources Certification Institute as a Senior Professional in Human Resources (SPHR), and a Global Professional in Human Resources (GPHR).

Professionally, Carolyn worked with start-up and mid-sized organizations for over twenty five years as a member of top management and as an HR consultant.  Her experience includes establishing HR departments in many diverse manufacturing, construction, service, and non-profit organizations. Prior to becoming an independent consultant, she was the Director of Human Resources for a major real estate developer in the Chicago area.

Carolyn is an active member of the Society for Human Resource Management and served on its national Human Resource Development Committee and Organizational Development Special Expertise Panel.  She has been a member of SHRM Chapter Boards for many years, serving as Certification Chair, Chapter President for two Chapters including the Super-Mega Chapter, Chicago SHRM.  She was also an Illinois SHRM State Council Officer serving as the State Council Director for two years.
