About the Authors – Carolyn J. Sperl

Carolyn J. Sperl, J.D., SPHR, GPHR has a Degree in Business Administration, a Master’s Degree in Human Resources/Industrial Relations from Loyola University, and a Law Degree from Chicago-Kent College of Law with a certificate in Labor and Employment Law. She is certified by the Human Resources Certification Institute as a Senior Professional in Human Resources (SPHR) and Global Professional in Human Resources (GPHR).

She is an active member of the Society for Human Resource Management, a past member of its’ Organizational Development Panel, a Board member of the Chicago Chapter where she has served as President and Chair of the Certification Committee. In addition to teaching PHR/SPHR Certification preparation courses she is an adjunct professor at North Park University where she teaches Strategic Human Resource Management, Labor, and Compensation and Benefits courses at the graduate level.

Carolyn has worked with start-up and mid-sized organizations for over twenty years as a member of top management and as an HR consultant. Her experience includes establishing HR departments in many diverse manufacturing, construction, service, and non-profit organizations. Prior to becoming an independent consultant, she was the Director of Human Resources for a major real estate developer in the Chicago area.
